Although many different designs of non-bitted bridles (the hackamores, bosals, and sidepulls) have long been available, the crossover/whole-head-hug design (a defining feature of The Bitless Bridle) is the only one to provide both pain-free and comprehensive communication. Dr. Cook first marketed The Bitless Bridle in 1999. The US Patent Office granted his design a patent in 2003. It is the only bitless design that has been developed and physiologically validated by a veterinary surgeon, one who has focused 50 years of his research on the head, neck, and chest of the horse. Such has been the success of the convincing scientific evidence published by Dr. Cook that, worldwide, there are now several versions of the original crossover design on the market. However, The Bitless Bridle is the only design the AEA can recommend or endorse. We are delighted to be working with Dr. Cook.
Cook and Strasser's new book "Metal in the Mouth - The Abusive Effects of Bitted Bridles" is also available through AEA. The compelling evidence in this book, explained in laymen's terms, conclusively shows why removal of bits from our horses' mouths represents a fundamental advance in equine welfare and human safety.
Julie and Ysabelle also plan to conduct information sessions that combine the two hottest topics in equine welfare - barefoot and bitless. Julie Leitl is one of only five qualified Strasser Hoofcare Specialists in Australia. Julie and Ysabelle will ensure that such events are as entertaining as they are informative.

Press Release 29th March 2004 |
Australian Equine Arts to go Bitless
Australian Equine Arts (AEA) is delighted to announce that it is now the official (and sole) Australian representative for The Bitless Bridle, developed by Dr. Robert Cook, Professor of Surgery Emeritus, Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, Massachusetts, USA.
Until now it has only been possible to purchase The Bitless Bridle directly from the USA. However, Dr. Cook has recently appointed Ysabelle Dean (AEA Co-Manager) as a Bitless Bridle Associate Clinician (BBAC), one of only two Associate Clinicians to have been appointed worldwide. In addition to offering The Bitless Bridle for sale in Australia at a competitive price, Ysabelle will be giving lectures and demonstrations throughout Australia on this exciting advance in equitation and horse welfare.
